Caregivers’ Resource Fair

Are you an overwhelmed caregiver? Options exist, so please come and learn about them Thursday, Sept. 17, 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Avila Retirement Community, 100 White Pine Drive in Albany near Crossgates Mall.

Tianna Pettinger, Social Worker at Senior Services of Albany will speak at 5:45 p.m. sharing her expertise and experience. Following Pettinger’s presentation, you will be able to direct questions and concerns to all participating representatives.

This “Ask the Expert” format is designed to help you find solutions to your situation. This event is hosted by Avila Retirement Community, Burke & Casserly, P.C., Home Instead Senior Care, Kingsway Community, St. Peter’s Lifeline.

Visit with representatives from Albany County Department of Aging, Interim Health Care, Alzheimer’s Association NENY, Medical Day Care, Catholic Charities, National Grid, CHOICES, NYS Attorney General’s Office, Colonie Senior Resources Department Price Chopper Pharmacy, EPIC • Senior Services of Albany, Geriatric Dietitian and Community Hospice. Legal Tools for Caregivers: a tele-seminar for family caregivers

The tele-seminar will be held via telephone conference call Wednesday, Sept. 30, 7 to 8 p.m. Presented by JulieAnn Calareso, Elder Law attorney with the law firm of Burke & Casserly P.C.

Join us for an interactive dialogue on Advanced Directives including Health Care Proxies, Living Wills, Powers of Attorneys, Do Not Resuscitate Orders and the new Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment. Basic information will be offered, and common myths about these documents will be debunked. Questions will be welcomed.

Those caring for a spouse, partner, parent, or other relative or friend can participate from the comfort and convenience of their own home. No travel or special equipment is necessary. Advance registration is required.

Those interested in participating should call Senior Services of Albany’s Caregiver Connection program 465-1398 by September 24. This tele-seminar is one of several being offered in 2009 and one component of the multi-faceted Caregiver Connection program supporting families engaged in elder care.

This program is funded by the Albany County Department for Aging and the United Way of the Greater Capital Region.
