November SmileScope

SmileScopes are a way for many of us to connect with our inner spirit and be reminded of joy! This connection can be made with descriptions, animals, numbers, crystals, etc. Each person can develop his or her own comfortable connection by exploring the things that make them smile.

SmileScope for November:

The Art of Giving and Receiving

Little girl with a gift

How are you at giving and receiving?

This month many of us focus on gratitude for the people, things and experiences that bring us joy in our lives today. This is especially true after the storm that many people have endured and are still recovering from in our country.

But this month we need to take gratitude a step further. We need to focus on not just gratitude but the full cycle of giving and receiving.

Giving
Are we giving for the right reasons? Are we giving with the expectation of receiving? Why? Examine your motives for giving. Try to give without strings. Are you giving because of the attention you receive or because of the act of giving? Try giving anonymously and see how it feels.

Giving a gift, large or small can remind you of the joy of receiving. We need to find the joy that we have lost due to the pressures we have placed or have allowed others to place on us regarding our giving. Time to remove the auto pilot and once again take the wheel in our hands to steer ourselves to a place where we are giving according to the highest good of all concerned rather than what we are “expected” to give.

Receiving
Are you receiving with grace? Do you say thank you with strings? For example, ” Oh, thank you for XYZ but I really needed ABC. (or a different size, color, item, etc.)” Again, examine your motives. Why are you adding the string? What are your expectations regarding this situation? Are you “reading into” the gift or act that was given or trying to determine someone’s motives?

You are in a dangerous neighborhood if you are spending too much time in your own mind and musings. There are other ways to work with those around you that do not include receiving with strings. It is time to simply say “Thank you.”

Have fun! You will be amazed at the true sense of joy, insight and gratitude that can be provided by a balanced cycle of giving and receiving. To be the happy, healthy people we are meant to be, we need to be able to give and receive in equal measure. Share your gratitude at every opportunity! We are all in need of this energy right now!

Take time to breathe today. Take time to see something beautiful today. Take time to smell something good today. And last but not least, take time to SMILE today!
